Author Information:

Catherine Foy Schryer is presently an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo in the Rhetoric and Professional Writing Program. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in technical writing, the history of rhetoric, research methods, genre theory and popular forms of discourse. Her research interests include genre theory, qualitative research methods, literacy and issues related to professional, academic and popular discourse. She has published in Written Communication and Textual Studies in Canada. She is presently engaged in a project exploring the connections between genre and power.

Laurence Steven is associate professor of English and Vice Dean of Humanities at Laurentian University, where he is directing the development of an Interdisciplinary Humanities MA in Interpretation and Values. His teaching and research interests are in modern and contemporary fiction and poetry, children's literature, and rhetoric and composition. In addition to essays in these areas, he has published a critical book on Patrick White, and a process-rhetoric textbook (co-author), both in 1989. With Catherine Schryer and Renée Corbeil he has edited Toward Writing Across the Curriculum / Vers Langue Integrée aux Programmes, a bilingual collection which is forthcoming.
